Temperance Hall's fourth Front Studio Resident for 2025, Deanne Butterworth, shares her new solo work-in-development: When it is Finished.
When it is Finished connects two periods of residency taken one year apart. It reflects upon a period of solo working at DESA Indonesia (April 2024) and material from the current Front Studio Residency at Temperance Hall. These two vastly different places allow for the emergence of a logic over time and a side-by-side display of embodied knowledge. It is both a review of stored material and dance emerging from the present moment.
SHOWING There will be an installation of screen-based work in Front Studio, followed by a 30-minute performance in the Main Hall.

Temperance Hall's Front Studio Residency offers six independent artists an artist fee and two months of exclusive, unrestricted access to the Front Studio at Temperance Hall – a dedicated private studio space at the front of the building. At the conclusion of their residencies, artists present a public showing of their work in development, and receive professional photographic and video documentation.
The Front Studio Residency has been supported by the Neilson Foundation, the City of Port Phillip, the Palais Theatre Community Fund, private donors and the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body.
